Based on the West Coast, Ginalina is a 2nd generation Canadian with Taiwanese roots. The daughter to a professional ballerina and scholarship-winning botanist (turned blue-collar immigrant working class), she worked as a healthcare engineer before pivoting to music as a lifestyle and career. She plays guitar, violin, and is a Kala Brand ukulele ambassador (instructor) and sings in English, French, and Mandarin. Alongside original fusion folk, family folk, and contemporary folk albums, she has co-released music for TV shows and commercial jingles, produced theatre shows and curated music festival workshops. One of her greatest joys is meaningful collaboration - with peers, dancers, circus artists, choirs, farmers, retreat spaces, photographers, videographers, ecologists, and more!
Special memories include Japan World Expo, Winnipeg Folk Music Festival, Mariposa Music Festival, intimate house and rural farmhouse concerts, Folk on the Rocks Music Festival, Dawson City Music Festival, Yukon Pivot Festival, cross-Canada school celebrations, Bella Coola Music Festival, International Children's Art and Music Festivals, World Rivers Day, St. Albert Arden Theatre, North Vancouver Centennial Theatre, Vancouver Revue Stage, Vancouver Heritage Orpheum Theatre, Vancouver Annex Theatre, Richmond Gateway Theatre, Hangzhou Grand Theatre, Wenzhou Grand Theatre, Kansai Music Expo, Taipei Jade Music Fest, Yukon Centre for the Arts, Ottawa Museum of History, mountainside shops, and Canadian Folk Music Award, Western Music Awards, and JUNO Award Showcases.
A naturalist at heart, Ginalina also develops music-based workshops with a focus on ecological curiosity, cultural exploration, and environment care. Aligned with her recent music releases, this work was recognized in 2025 with a nomination for Change Maker of the Year by Women in Music Canada, a featured 10-page interview in Palettera's Annual Book of Incredible People, Edition 10, and an invitation for a Music and Culture Exchange through the Beijing, Sichuan, and Xinjiang Yiwenli Cultural Department.
New work is dedicated to deep listening, care and collaboration, and the completion of her bookend Fusion Folk album "The Moon Knows" featuring friends and instruments from around the world - including Tennyson King (zhong ruan), Sophie Lukcas (kora), Sarah Yu Sha Tan (guzheng), Ji Rong Huang (erhu), Yoro Noukoussi (djembe), Tiiu Strutt (vocalist in Estonian), Kelley Wills (illustrator) and more. She is also committed to finishing and releasing her contemporary folk project "Darling Sparrows" - created with admired guests including Dayna Manning, Mario Vaira, Spencer Capier, Joseph Lubinsky-Mast, Noah Walker, and Tobi Duquette, and Roberta Landreth, and along with that, excited to support more young people and inspire deeper wonder for our world through global organizations and not-for-profits such as Connected North Canada, Touching Nature School in China, and Vancouver Science World.
So much joy and thank you for visiting! Please reach out with any project or other inquiries!
