Based on the West Coast, Ginalina is a 2nd generation Canadian with Taiwanese roots. The daughter to a ballerina and a botanist, her first career was in healthcare engineering and project management before she chose music as a lifestyle and career. Her work is inspired by nature and rootedness and curiosity - about plants, people, places, and stories. Her work includes folk music of many genres and she enjoys meaningful inter- and cross-disciplinary collaboration - with musicians, dancers, circus artists, choirs, retreats, scientists, and more!
Special memories include Japan World Expo, Winnipeg Folk Music Festival, Mariposa Music Festival, intimate house and rural farmhouse concerts, Folk on the Rocks Music Festival, Dawson City Music Festival, Yukon Pivot Festival, cross-Canada school celebrations, Bella Coola Music Festival, International Children's Art and Music Festivals, World Rivers Day, St. Albert Arden Theatre, North Vancouver Centennial Theatre, Vancouver Revue Stage, Vancouver Heritage Orpheum Theatre, Vancouver Annex Theatre, Richmond Gateway Theatre, Hangzhou Grand Theatre, Wenzhou Grand Theatre, Kansai Music Expo, Taipei Jade Music Fest, Yukon Centre for the Arts, Ottawa Museum of History, mountainside shops, and Canadian Folk Music Award, Western Music Awards, and JUNO Award Showcases. She has been honoured with 5 JUNO nominations, 6 Canadian Folk Music Award nominations (one win) and several Western Canadian Music Awards. She has also been shortlists for her books by Kirkus Reviews and is recommended by Canadian Geographic Magazine.
A naturalist at heart, Ginalina also develops music-based workshops with a focus on ecological curiosity, cultural exploration, and environment care. Aligned with her recent music releases, this work was recognized in 2025 with a nomination for Change Maker of the Year by Women in Music Canada, a featured 10-page interview in Palettera's Annual Book of Incredible People, Edition 10, and several invitations for Music and Culture Exchanges and Tours through the Beijing, Sichuan, and Xinjiang Yiwenli Cultural Department. In 2026, she will join the Yuan Yin Cultural Group to create and tour Fusion Folk through Yunnan, Shanxi, and Guangdong provinces in China.
New work is dedicated to deep listening, care and collaboration, and continued time with passion projects. "The Moon Knows" is the bookend album to her Remembered and Remixed Family Folk Songs collection and will feature friends and instruments from around the world - including Tennyson King (zhong ruan), Sophie Lukcas (kora), Sarah Yu Sha Tan (guzheng), Ji Rong Huang (erhu), Tiiu Strutt (vocalist), Kelley Wills (illustrator). "Darling Sparrows" is a contemporary indie-roots project created with admired guests including Dayna Manning, Mario Vaira, Spencer Capier, Joseph Lubinsky-Mast, Noah Walker, Tobi Duquette, and Roberta Landreth. "Grandfather's Tea" is the sequel book to "Grandmother's Chair" and along with that, Ginalina is excited to support and inspire deeper wonder for our world through global organizations and not-for-profits such as Connected North, Touching Nature School, and Vancouver Science World.
